Please note, some events do require preregistration or have a deadline to sign up, so read each description carefully so you can make the most of your Virtual Summer Games week.

2:00 PM CT: Mindful Yoga   

This is an all-levels yoga class featuring instruction from Special Olympics parent and volunteer Crystalyn Huegen. The focus will be on gentle postures and mindful meditation, helping participants be in the present moment.

6:00 PM: Cruising with Athlete Leaders: How to Make a Travel Video 101 

Travel with Athlete Leadership on a fun, engaging virtual road trip of activities and events that lead to Summer Games. Over the course of the week, athletes will have opportunities to participate in multiple events centered on a road trip.  

Monday’s edition will teach participants how to edit a short video on a smartphone in iMovie or a similar program.

6:00 PM CT: Rocket League Unified Duos Tournament  

Soccer. Rocket-fueled vehicles. It all leads to high-flying, nail biting action during our Virtual Summer Games eSports tournament. Check out the latest program from Special Olympics Illinois. Unified pairs will team up to play Rocket League throughout the week in hopes to appear in the finals on Friday – and to take home the title!  

How to Participate

12:00 PM CT: Coaches Corner: Understanding Consistent Top Performance 

Join Dr. Kraus from the Center for Sports Psychology, as she leads a discussion around how to get the best out of your athletes day after day. The hour will focus on three aspects of consistent top performance: peak performance perspective, neuroscience perspective, and tools/techniques perspective. Coaches will walk away with practical tools and techniques to take back to their teams. 

Dr. Kraus is president of the Center for Sports Psychology in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The Center specializes in helping individuals and teams to develop mental strategies that lead to a consistent peak performance. Olympic, Paralympic, World champion athletes and coaches along with collegiate athletic teams, club teams and parents of athletes have used these strategies to successfully manage performance under pressure in their competitive and non-competitive life.

1:00 PM CT:  Workout with Gallagher!

Join Gallagher, one of our Virtual Summer Games sponsors, as they share details on our partnership, followed by a 30-minute, low-impact cardio workout. Athletes, partners, coaches, family members and friends of all abilities are welcome. The workout will feature a warm up, exercise circuit, cool down and stretching. Modifications of all exercises will be shown. Be sure to have your sneakers laced up and a water bottle ready to go.

2:00 PM CT: Tooty Ta Video 

One of our favorite Summer Games traditions brings together our Young Athletes with participating LETR groups to dance and sing together, performing the silly Tooty Ta song. Since we could not be there together, we went virtual. Tune in to see the fun results.

This video will be posted at this time, so we encourage you to bring your dancing shoes and get ready to laugh and move with those in the video. 

6:00 PM CT: Cruising with Athlete Leaders: Road to Athlete Leadership Game Night 

Travel with Athlete Leadership on a fun, engaging virtual road trip of activities and events that lead to Summer Games. Over the course of the week, athletes will have opportunities to participate in multiple events centered on a road trip.  

Tuesday’s edition will feature a fun Game Night for some social interaction and a little competition.

12:00 PM CT: Athlete Lunch & Learn: Summer Savvy Hydration & Sun Safety  

As our popular Lunch & Learn series continues, grab your meal and join us! Health Messengers will educate the group on easy (and tasty!) ways to stay hydrated and share tips on how best to stay safe in the summer heat and sun.

6:00 PM CT: Cruising with Athlete Leaders: My Rockin’ Road Trip, Part One 

Travel with Athlete Leadership on a fun, engaging virtual road trip of activities and events that lead to Summer Games. Over the course of the week, athletes will have opportunities to participate in multiple events centered on a road trip.  

Wednesday will be My Rockin’ Road Trip, Part One (of two), where athletes will begin to build a memory book via Google Slides. Participants will work in small groups to research and prepare for their trip with the destination of Summer Games. They will plan out a visit to two Illinois attractions, pit stops during their trip, songs and games to will play along the way, and much more.

6:00 PM CT: SOILL vs SOKY: Rocket League Border Battle 

In the cross-state Rocket League throw down of the summer, Special Olympics Illinois gamers will face off against their counterparts from Special Olympics Kentucky to see which team can blast off farther than all others to wear the Rocket League crown.  

How to Participate 
To follow the high-flying, goal-scoring action of tonight’s battle, you can watch on our Twitch channel. Players for this event were prequalified from a previous event.

Travel with Athlete Leadership on a fun, engaging virtual road trip of activities and events that lead to Summer Games. Over the course of the week, athletes will have opportunities to participate in multiple events centered on a road trip.  

Thursday will be My Rockin’ Road Trip Part Two (of two), where athletes will present, in groups, groups will present the trip they planned in My Rockin’ Road Trip, Part One.

7:00 PM CT: Craft Night 

It’s time to get crafty with Courage & Grace. In the spirit of the ever-popular paint nights, we invite you to spend an hour with us for the virtual edition. Be ready to channel your inner artist as you create a SOILL-themed home decoration.   

How to Participate

Please note, you will order your craft kit online and the package will contain information on how to log on the evening of the event. The first 500 registrants are guaranteed a free craft item to paint. After those spaces have been filled, others may complete the form to purchase a craft kit. 10:00 AM CT: Virtual Wave Cheer   

Did you hear that? It is the SOILL spirit being shouted loud and proud across the state. The Virtual Wave is a collaboration of groups from the SOILL community doing a cheer to spread the SOILL spirit. Tune into the Special Olympics Illinois and Unified Champion Schools social channels at this time to see what we have in store.  

How to Participate 
Want to show your spirit as well? You can make your own video as an individual, team, or group and share it with us on social media. Just post it on your preferred channel after you view our video and tag Special Olympics Illinois and Unified Champion Schools. Don’t forget to use hashtag #SOILLSummerGames.

5:00 PM CT: Family Fun Night  

Come on get happy with SOILL! We’ll start off with teaching you how to make two cocktails and two mock-tails (a non-alcoholic cocktail). From there, SOILL staff member Amanda will instruct everyone on how to create a charcuterie board filled with meat and cheeses to snack on. Finally, we’ll end the hour with a family-friendly comedy performance from Sid Davis.

Sid’s humor is fueled with relatable topics that are hilarious for all ages and feature his very patient, school-teacher wife, his two kids, and an interesting life held together with his wavering ego. His start in the comedy business was delayed by a medical condition. When he finally arrived near the age of 50, he immediately impressed several A-list comics who mentored him. Special Olympics Illinois is proud to host the 2021 Virtual Summer Games online June 21-26. Activities are being planned daily for SOILL athletes, coaches, volunteers, and other members of our community to enjoy. Then, join us on Saturday, June 26 at 6:30 PM CT for the main event — the 2021 Summer Games: Virtual Celebration!

7:45 PM CT: BINGO Night 

It’s bingo night with all your favorite SOILL friends and families! Join us for three rounds of Special Olympics-themed bingo after the 2021 Summer Games: Virtual Celebration. All members of the SOILL community are invited to participate.
